Real output can be decomposed into the distribution of output to other industries and to
final demand. Figure 2 shows the distribution of total NWPCA-related output in 2016. The
overwhelming majority of sales are made to other industries. Sales to other industries
constitute intermediate demand; all other sales are final demand. Relevant final
demand categories for this industry include personal consumption ($2.0 billion), non-
residential construction ($136.2 million), residential construction ($2.4 billion), inventory
change ($53.2 million), net exports (-$1.0 billion), and federal nondefense expenditures
($116.0 million). Please note that the sum of the columns (intermediate demand and
final demand) in Figure 2 total $10.7 billion and match the 2016 output displayed in Table
1.
