An Economic Analysis of the U.S. Wooden Pallet and Container Industry 20 4. State‐Level Economic Impact Analysis The national level economic impacts described in section 3 can be seen as the sum of economic impacts at the state level. National level direct production has been distributed to the state level using employment shares taken from the BLS Census of Employment and Wages (CEW), for both the upstream and the downstream analysis. Next, IMPLAN's database was used to calculate the associated direct employment, value-added, and labor compensation. IMPLAN is also used to calculate the indirect and induced impacts of production. IMPLAN is often used by business leaders, researchers, and elected officials to assess potential local economic impacts of various projects. We have used IMPLAN to calculate direct, indirect, and induced upstream impacts for output, employment (jobs), total value added, and labor income. These impacts have been calculated for both the upstream and downstream impacts of NWPCA-related activity. NWPCA staff have identified twenty-five states of interest. These include the following: Alabama Arkansas California Florida Georgia Illinois Indiana Iowa Kentucky Louisiana Maine Michigan Minnesota Mississippi Missouri New Jersey New York North Carolina Ohio Oregon Pennsylvania Tennessee Texas Virginia Wisconsin Figure 8.
