I 'm using my last Chairman's letter in PalletCentral to share with you some insights into what I've seen and experienced this year, as well as to publicly share my appreciation for everyone that works so hard on all our behalves throughout the year. I'll start with the feeling of pride. NWPCA members have a deep sense of ownership in this association. We have hundreds of volunteers, whether working on our committees, supporting our Pallet Foundation, participating in the NWPCA Political Action Committee, or serving on the boards of our association and foundation, who roll up their sleeves and provide an impressive amount of time, treasure, and talent to address our industry's critical issues. We have a special organization that I've been incredibly honored to serve as Board Chair. What we do makes a difference, and nobody else is positioned to do this work. NWPCA's Board spends a lot of time discussing strategic issues, the tactics for how to position our industry, and assuring we have the resources necessary to achieve our objectives. We have all benefited from the outcomes, whether it is the latest and greatest PDS™ version, advancing fire codes that works for our communities, or defeating policy initiatives that would impact wood packaging use in international trade. Sometimes it is hard to see beyond the pressing amount of work we do in our businesses daily. Serving as Board Chair has provided me the unique opportunity to travel and see the interconnectedness and 'big picture' of all that NWPCA does. There is a bigger purpose. Referenced above, but clearly felt in the role of Board Chair is that you are building off the shoulders of those that came before you, as well as the efforts of your peers. We sometimes like to think it is our fingerprint, our idea, that makes the difference on a key issue. But just like in your company, it is the contribution and engagement of our entire team that truly moves us forward. Each NWPCA Board Chair doesn't whip-saw the organization from one priority to another: he or she advances the collective interests of the association's owners–yours. It's your association, and our future. I'll conclude with a note of gratitude regarding NWPCA's tremendous staff. Working side- by-side with them these past twelve months leaves me even more highly impressed with the team we've been able to build. Your volunteer leaders and board, your staff, and your personal engagement and support, is NWPCA's formula for success in all transitions. It's been my great privilege and honor to serve as NWPCA Board Chair.
