Fall Plant Tours The NWPCA and the Canadian Wood Pallet and Container Association are co-hosts for the 2019 Fall Plant Tours, October 1-2 in Toronto. This year's plant tour hosts are Pallet Management Group, Topax Protektive Packaging, Weston Forest Products and Woodbridge Pallet. We appreciate their support in opening their facilities. Look for registration and exhibit opportunities at palletcentral.com. On the Road On February 22-23, NWPCA's Vice President of Advocacy Patrick Atagi gathered with agriculture stakeholders at USDA's annual Agricultural Outlook Forum to discuss current and emerging issues affecting U.S. agricultural production and international trade. This year's Forum brought together more than 1,500 producers, processors, policymakers, government officials, and nongovernmental organizations from around the world, to explore timely and emerging topics such as developments in global trade, forestry conservation and management, and outlooks for food and commodity markets. USDA Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue was the keynote speaker. As a member of the American Trucking Associations, NWPCA participated in their Annual Policy Conference, March 20-22 in Alexandria, VA. The meeting gave NWPCA an opportunity to work on councils and an opportunity to interact with the trucking industry. The conference also included presentation on "Commercial Driver Safety Risk Factors" and site security, including a discussion on "active shooter" crisis communications. In early April, Director of Science and Technology Integration Brad Gething attended a meeting of the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) in Denver, Colorado. Brad currently serves as the subcommittee on packaging within the ASTM's committee on packaging. The group meets regularly to review current standards, and report on other standards-related work that affects the wood packaging industry. He also visited with members Anderson Pallet & Crate, 48forty Solutions, and L&R Pallet.
