On the Road P atrick Atagi, Vice President of Advocacy & External Affairs, and Brad Gething, Director of Science & Technology Integration, attended the North American Plant Protection Organization (NAPPO) Annual Meeting from October 28 through November 1. At the meeting, Dr. Gething participated in the Forestry Expert Working Group meeting, where the group is working on a science and technology document to help reduce confusion between wood-boring pests and hitchhiker pests. Gething and Atagi also participated in the plenary session and industry meetings. The NAPPO meeting continues to be essential for NWPCA to represent the wood pallet industry and interact with government regulators on the topic of ISPM 15. Mark Barford, Senior Director, Business Partnerships, traveled in Alabama for a week in December to visit members, while investigating possible locations for future Fall Plant tours. He toured many new high production sawmills being built, and several members announcing their upcoming new equipment and lines. Brent McClendon, President and CEO, spoke at Pellet Fuels Institute board meeting in Washington, DC on the importance of strong advocacy programs, and then attended the ForestProud board meeting the same day for important discussions on sustain- ability initiatives and industry messaging. Brent also recently presented at the American Lumber Standard Committee board meeting on the state of the wood pallet industry. While there, he shared some ideas for how to improve the efficiency of the ISPM15 certification system, while maintaining the strong integrity of the program that's been built over the years.
