NWPCA and Global Wood Packaging Forum Present at IFQRG Virtual Symposium T he International Forestry Quarantine Research Group (IFQRG) supports the International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC) by addressing critical forestry quarantine issues. Each year, the group holds a symposium that brings together leading researchers and regulatory officials worldwide to identify and respond to key questions and advance collaborative research projects. In this year's virtual event, NWPCA's Brad Gething, PhD, was invited to present at IFQRG and facilitate the Global Wood Packaging Forum (GWPF) panel, which provided an industry perspective. More info on GWPF is available at globalwoodpackagingforum.org. PDS and Unit Load Training Series N WPCA continues its series of free pallet design training. The latest course, "PDS Basics: Fasteners," was held mid-November. The session was presented by Dr. Laszlo Horvath, Director of VT's Center for Packaging and Unit Load Design, and joined by NWPCA's Kristen DeLack, P.E. and Brad Gething, PhD. The course examined the various types of fasteners, their characteristics, and how these different factors affect the performance of pallet connections. You can replay the webinar or access any of the previously held sessions and supplementary slides at palletcentral.com/pdsonline. Pallet Foundation Rebrand, New Logo & Website I n October, the Pallet Foundation's announcement of a new logo and website that embody the vision and mission of the Foundation, was timely. "With the upcoming release of the Environmental Product Declaration (EPD), we decided to update our brand to clearly share our vision, demonstrate our unwavering commitment to the wooden packaging industry, reinforce the environmental attributes of wooden pallets, and advance safety throughout the supply chain," commented Bob Wenner, Chair of the Pallet Foundation. The website design allows users to easily find the latest research projects results, such as the landmark Landfill Avoidance study and Economic Impact Study. The projects page also explores each undertaking of the Foundation and its critical role in the wood packaging industry. The new website is accessible at www.PalletFoundation.org.
