PalletCentral • January-February 2021 25 continues to be the main platform for NWPCA members, we developed and maintain other websites, and use social media to broaden our global reach, and core messaging. • Developed and maintain COVID Resource Hub: palletcentral.com/covid19. • Ongoing: GlobalWoodPackagingforum.org; PalletDesignSystem.com; NaturesPackaging.org; PalletFoundation.org. • PalletDesignSystem.com added a French translation. • Fire Code Manual translation into Spanish. • Redesigned PalletCentral® to update the look. • PalletCentral® (print and digital) distribution over 6,000; digital subscribers on the rise. • Monthly economic impact manufacturing surveys (May-August); high member engagement; valuable intel shared from members on labor and production. Pallets to Pellets A significant victory for our industry and the environment came in March 2020 when the Environmental Protection Agency's Administrator, Andrew Wheeler, signed into regulation language that opens the path for wood pallet residuals to be sold as wood pellet fuel. • NWPCA members and staff worked to change existing federal regulation that previously prohibited wood pallet residuals from being used in pellet fuel. • The wooden pallet industry prides itself on its environmental footprint and 95 percent recover/ recycle rate – the highest recycling rate among competing packaging materials. The revised regulation ensures a new market for biomass residuals that helps the industry maintain and grow its recycling rate. Pallet Foundation The Pallet Foundation continues its strategically focused plan to support the Pallet Design System™ R&D, and conduct important environmental and safety research. This work, and plans for 2021, represent the most expansive and aggressive array of projects in the history of the Foundation. • Rebranded initiative with a new website and new logo: PalletFoundation.org. New website highlights the work of the foundation, projects, donors and trustees and a more user-friendly experience.
