NWPCA Works Closely with NAISMA
T
he long-term strategic plan for NWPCA
Advocacy includes a focus on invasive
species. As the new Biden administration
emphasizes its sustainability policy, the
NWPCA staff is working closer than ever
with critical industry members like the North
American Invasive Species Management Association (NAISMA). Staff participates
in monthly NAISMA legislative committee meetings that include discussion on
ongoing invasive species issues. Leaders from the U.S. Department of Interior's
National Invasive Species Council and USDA Invasive Species Coordinators also
participate in these monthly meetings.
e committee provides updates on
relevant policy and upcoming legislation
that involve regulation. Current topics
include the Emerald Ash Borer, the
Asian Longhorned Beetle (left), and the
USDA ISPM 15 program. Key policy
projects, such as the upcoming Farm
Bill, which could pass in December
2023, are also a priority. Increasing collaboration with the Congressional Invasive
Species Caucus (CISC) is critical for NWPCA and NAISMA. NWPCA staff will
be attending the upcoming NAISMA conferences for National Invasive Species
Awareness Week in February and May.
