PalletCentral • May-June 2021 17 Most pallet recyclers and manufacturers are experiencing labor shortages, at least seasonally. We compete with landscaping and other industries. Offering a solid package with fair pay, ample vacation time, contribution to health care and an aggressive 401k, we believe we have the ammunition for key people to be long-term employees. What is the most exciting part of working in the pallet industry that keeps you connected to your career path within it? It's exciting to me that we are 100% women owned. My sister and I are very proud of this accomplishment and we want to promote women within and outside the pallet industry. v JEFF JARVIS Pallet Sales Manager, Pallet Service Corp. What brought you to work in the Pallet Industry? Prior to working in the pallet industry, I was working in corporate finance. While I enjoyed this type of work and had success, I still felt like something was missing. I grew up with the owners of PSC and never thought I would be working with them, but here I am seven years later. What has kept me here are the relationships and wide array of challenges we tackle each day. What is your role at your current employment/ company? Manage our Pallet Sales team How do you view this industry differently than perhaps your predecessors? I think many of the challenges that have been dealt with in the past will remain the same, it's how we solve them that could differ. I think the key will be utilizing the new tools and technology to keep pushing efficiency and innovation where it makes sense. As a rising leader in the industry, what challenges and opportunities do you see ahead for the industry? I think one change that is happening now more than ever is in mergers and acquisitions (M&A). I think it will be very important to understand how your individual company fits into the market as the consolidation takes place and establish a vision and a plan. I see M&A activity as an opportunity for growing companies wanting to take on the challenge. It's exciting to me that we are 100% women owned. My sister and I are very proud of this accomplishment and we want to promote women within and outside the pallet industry. – Amy Olson, CFO, Owner and Co-Founder, Rose Pallets
