NWPCA Meeting with White House NEC on Supply Chain I n early December, the NWPCA met with the White House National Economic Council (NEC) to discuss the role and importance of wooden pallets within the supply chain. Brent McClendon, President and CEO; Mike Hachtman, Board Chair; and Jason Ortega, Vice President of Public Affairs, represented the NWPCA. is meeting gave insight into how the pallet industry operates within the supply chain and some current challenges. President Biden has tasked the NEC to coordinate the Administration's efforts to address the supply chain crisis. e NEC team was highly responsive and welcomed our continued engagement. NWPCA: Wooden Pallets Emphasized in Supply Chain Forum D uring a December forum on the supply chain on the Hill, Congressman Rob Wittman (VA) recognized and highlighted the wooden pallet industry before members of Congress and other manufacturing industry leaders who participated. In advance of his remarks, Congressional staff for Congressman Wittman reached out to NWPCA for information on the industry and its current challenges, including the impact of lumber prices and the labor shortage. e forum was hosted by Republicans on the House Natural Resources Committee. Congressman Wittman emphasized many data points on our industry, such as 90% of consumer goods are transported on a wooden pallet. We thank Congressman Wittman for using his limited allotted time to talk about how essential wooden pallets are in keeping the supply chain moving. Pallet Foundation Announces Nature's Packaging® in Spanish A Spanish translation of Nature's Packaging website – naturespackaging.org – was just added in December. e popular website and tools are now accessible in three major languages (including English and French), expanding our global accessibility. Education on wood and its environmental attributes is coming at a very timely period in our industry. Sustainability is at the top of the mind of purchasing, procurement, and the sustainability officers, who are increasingly the leading drivers behind packaging decisions. You'll find research papers remain in the original published language while the main content translates into three languages. Special thanks to the NWPCA, Canadian Wood Pallet and Container Association, and the Western Pallet Association for their contributions to this program and the Pallet Foundation for making this project one of their priorities.
