Relationships built through PalletPAC donations paved the way for securing several high-profile meetings— especially at the member level—and helped ensure both the Republican and the Democratic receptions had members of Congress in attendance. In securing over 40 targeted meetings with members and their staff in both chambers of Congress, our fly-in cemented the association as a voice for the industry, paving the way for future advocacy efforts in 2024 and beyond. Farm Bill Foundation Building Much of the continued advocacy work following June's fly-in centered around promoting NWPCA's Farm Bill- specific priorities. In addition to the Agriculture Committee staff in both chambers, dozens of meetings with offices representing areas across the country were secured. ese meetings provided opportunities for NWPCA to support the "marker bills" being considered for inclusion in the Farm Bill that most closely align with member priorities. One of the bills advocated for during those meetings included the bipartisan Biomanufacturing & Jobs Act (S. 2452 / H.R. 5134), which seeks to strengthen the U.S. Department of Agriculture's (USDA) BioPreferred program. Strengthening the BioPreferred program is critical for the association because companies using NWPCA's exclusive Pallet Design System™(PDS) automatically earn the ability to use the USDA Certified Biobased label on their products. Other bills highlighted during our Farm Bill meetings included the Timber Innovation for Building Rural Communities Act (S. 2662 / H.R. 5044), introduced by industry champion, Congresswoman Andrea Salinas (D-OR), as well as the Invasive Species Prevention and Forest Restoration Act (S. 1238 / H.R. 3174). In addition to highlighting the bills our industry supports, these meetings also offered the opportunity to defend against the addition of language or provisions that could disrupt or introduce new challenges for the industry. rough sustained outreach efforts, our team was able to keep a pulse on the status and general content of the Farm Bill's Forestry Title, ensuring that no additional pest language was introduced, nor were attacks waged against the International Standards for Phytosanitary Measures (ISPM) 15 program.
