Education not only introduces young professionals to the complexities of the industry but also inspires them to think creatively about the future of wood residuals and the circular economy. Wood Innova on Grant (WIG) Applica on Process And Market Expansion One primary mechanism to support the expansion of these markets is the Wood Innovation Grant, a government- funded initiative through the USDA designed to encourage the development of new technologies and processes for wood products, including residuals like biochar. If NWPCA is selected for funding support through WIG, NWPCA will be able to identify opportunities for market growth, understand the needs of NWPCA members, and help the industry better understand policies and regulations that can facilitate the use of residuals. Tom Miles highlighted the importance of NWPCA members actively participating in this process. is project will include a survey to gather insights from members about their current challenges in the residual market, the cost of disposing of wood waste, and potential areas where market growth is possible. e survey also seeks input on policy support to create more favorable conditions for developing residual markets. NWPCA worked closely with Tom to apply for the grant, leveraging his familiarity with the grant award process and expertise on the topic.
