As I write this message my head is still buzzing after one of the best NWPCA Annual Leadership Conferences that I have attended. Record attendance of over 500 members gathered in Tucson, Arizona to engage in an exceptional program that clearly demonstrated that the NWPCA is as strong as ever. The speakers were outstanding, topics were relevant, people were engaged, sessions were full, the evening entertainment was spectacular, and The Pallet Foundation auction raised an incredible $125,000, shattering last year's record of $81,400. It is going to be a crazy task to top this ALC when we return to the Loews Portofino Resort in March of 2016, but I can assure you, we will. Our outstanding staff and member volunteers are committed to making it happen. In 2015, making progress towards our vision – to achieve and sustain worldwide acceptance of the NWPCA as the thought and information leader on wood packaging in unit-load solutions – and our mission – to provide an environment for our members to succeed while promoting the wood pallet and wood packaging industry – means pursuing activities that advance the three key goals and objectives of our strategic plan. We have talked about these in varying degrees of detail, but here is a restatement of each and the key initiatives we are pursuing in each area: • Advocacy – NWPCA is well-known, respected and relevant, actively anticipating and reacting accordingly to strategic government and non-government entities specific to wood packaging markets and issues. From the Congressional mill tour program, to the ICC Fire Code recommendations, to the Reach-Out Task Force, to the engagement of LobbyIT, our new navigator for better access on Capitol Hill, we'll continue to proactively provide support to the industry while being prepared for any issues that might emerge. • PDS – NWPCA's PDS is the leading pallet and unit load design system. PDS will continue to evolve and layer additional features in pursuit of this goal. In the next release of PDS, you will see enhanced user interface visualizations. The enhanced capability will allow users to position pallet components more easily, thereby speeding-up the design process. • Information Resource – NWPCA's virtual presence is utilized by our members, their customers and other strategic entities for easily accessible and useable information. Anchored by our newly redesigned website, we will continue sharing site features, such as messaging, social media and group connections, and help our members stay engaged and maximize all the site has to offer. I encourage you to read NWPCA's strategic plan. You can find it on the NWPCA website under the "About" tab in "Our Roles" section. Knowing where we're headed and understanding the purpose behind everything we do, will help you translate the NWPCA's actions into benefits for your business and help you become a more engaged member. Again, I appreciate the trust and confidence you have placed in me as your Chairman. I will strive to fill the big shoes left behind by Steve Yelland and keep the momentum building.
