NWPCA palletcentral.com PalletCentral • July-August 2017 9 Pallet Design System™ Features Four New Languages in 2018 N WPCA is excited to announce for 2018 the development of new capabilities for PDS that will provide user interface and print-out report materials in four additional languages: Spanish, French, Italian and German. The commitment to incorporate additional languages further solidifies PDS as the global standard for unit load pallet design. Shane Thompson, NWPCA's Board Chair said, "NWPCA's Board of Directors is investing heavily to expand the value of PDS to current licensees, and the multi-lingual functionality and report materials will be incredibly valuable to all of our users, no matter where they are located." It has been developed with fire code experts to ensure industry meets its commitment to broaden the application of best practices around fire prevention, fire mitigation, and fire safety of first responders and our members. "Pallets Move the World" Video Featured at NAM Conference T he National Association of Manufacturers' (NAM) Council of Manufacturing Associations (CMA) selected NWPCA's "Pallets Move the World" video to be featured at their Summer Conference, August 2-4, 2017, in Boston, Massachusetts. The video was chosen to be part of a select few manufacturing organizations to highlight the contributions an industry makes to the economy, to Americans and to the world. About 200 manufacturing trade association executives, thought leaders and decision makers attend this event to discuss ways to move manufacturing into the future. NWPCA Staff on the Road N WPCA's President/CEO Brent McClendon participated in the National Council of Forestry Association Executives in Annapolis, Maryland, July 25-28, 2017. The council promotes and cultivates best practices for executive officers of forest and natural resource- related public and private organizations. The meeting provides an opportunity for NWPCA to share information about issues of common concern as well as continue to meet and connect with other organizations. From August 8-12, he attended the American Lumber Standard Committee, Executive Committee meeting in Portland, Oregon. On June 26-28, Patrick Atagi, Vice President of Advocacy and External Affairs, and Dr. Brad Gething, NWPCA Director of Science & Technology Integration, participated in the North American Plant Protection Organization (NAPPO) International Symposium on Risk-Based Sampling, with a specific focus on invasive species. The event was supported by the USDA and attendees included scientists, government officials and industry officials from the United States, Canada and Mexico. The purpose of the symposium was to determine and identify the biggest invasive threats and set the inspection schedule accordingly to make inspections the most efficient and effective way possible. On July 20, Patrick Atagi represented the wood packaging industry at the United Fresh Power of Fresh Fly-In on Capitol Hill. From August 6-7, he participated in the National Conference of State Legislatures legislative summit in Boston, Massachusetts, joining hundreds of legislators and federal policymakers to discuss issues that affect your districts and states.
