- 17 - FINANCIAL STRENGTH The NWPCA is a $4 million revenue association. We maintain a strong balance sheet with strict internal control processes and oversight from independent accounting and auditing firms. The association is building resources in order to meet our growing industry's needs. This past year, increased funding was used toward the addition of staff and outside consultants. By working collaboratively with external top-notch experts in their fields such as FleishmannHillard communications firm, Gardner Public Affairs, the law firms of Olssen Frank Weeda, and marketing and branding consultant Hybrid Studios, we are well positioned to have available resources and strategic expertise, and the contacts, to assist staff in addressing present and future challenges to this industry. PROFESSIONAL STAFF WORKING FOR YOU NWPCA added five new staff to advance achievement of the Strategic Plan: advocacy, web presence, PDS. With an eye on the future and a goal of moving the Pallet Design System's functionality forward, two professional structural engineers were added to the PDS team: Kristen DeLack, PE, and Farhad Shahabi, PhD. Kevin Richey also joined the PDS team, bringing 20 years of software development and project management experience to NWPCA as he seamlessly took over the Sr. Software Engineer duties of Curtis Wilkes. The quality of the people working on PDS is unmatched. The knowledge and experience these three bring to the team will truly ensure that PDS remains the leading cutting-edge technology and the most-used pallet and unit load design system across the globe. The NWPCA also hired a manager of communications with an impressive record of accomplishments, Anne Lewis, to help support the communications team and advocacy efforts of the association. Mishelle Cavanagh joined NWPCA's membership services department in 2017 to expand the association's customer service and membership outreach activities. In addition to staff, NWPCA significantly increased resources in 2017 for PDS marketing, public relations and law firms to work with our staff. 2017 BOARD OF DIRECTORS The NWPCA Board of Directors are elected volunteer leaders of the Association, representing a broad range of companies involved in the wood pallet and wood packaging industry, governed by the By-Laws of the Association and in compliance with U.S. Antitrust laws.
