As part of our efforts to further improve the health of our industry through responsible and well-thought out policies, rules and regulations, NWPCA has expanded our advocacy efforts. The membership of the National Wooden Pallet and Container Association is engaged and active, showing time and again their willingness to put in the time, energy, resources, and go the extra mile when asked, especially in such short notice. Most recently, NWPCA launched a Political Action Committee, aptly named "PalletPAC," which is the only PAC specifically dedicated to this industry. The PAC has raised over $60,000 in just its first year, and is providing support both Senate and House campaigns, Democrat and Republican. We are a bi-partisan organization, and support candidates that support the industry. This includes Senator Tammy Duckworth. The meeting with Senator Duckworth was one of many in June. The NWPCA Congressional Fly-in from June 19-20, has over 40 visits to Members of Congress and their staff on the schedule. The NWPCA PalletPAC breakfast has three U.S. Representatives confirmed to attend and speak, which include Representatives Walorski (Indiana), Byrnes (Alabama) and Yoho (Florida). The Capitol Hill Club reception also brought five members of Congress to speak to NWPCA members including; Representatives Long (Missouri), Walden (Oregon), Griffith (Virginia), Steube (Florida), and GT Thompson (Pennsylvania). The wooden packaging industry is powerful in its space. We wouldn't be here without your help, support, and leadership. As we move into turbulent political waters in 2020 and beyond, we welcome your questions, and your active engagement and support. PC Patrick Atagi, NWPCA's vice president of advocacy and external affairs, also serves as executive director of the NWPCA PAC. He may be reached at 703-519-6104. palletcentral.com PalletCentral • May-June 2019 11
