Health of Forests Nothing is more important to us than the health of forests. Our entire industry depends on healthy forests and that's why we take great care to make sure they remain healthy. • NWPCA works extensively with conservation groups and researchers focused on the health of forests. • There is an international standard that requires treatment of all solid wood packaging to protect against invasive species. Since that standard has been in place there has been a significant reduction in the establishment of wood boring invasive species. That standard is an important success story. • Now, there is an emerging threat. Insects, like the Spotted Lanternfly, can lay eggs or hitch a ride on just about any surface. The international standard that is in place does not address this risk. Experts need to gather more information about what can be done to prevent invasive species from traveling on all modes of transport. Because of the success of the ISPM 15 program in minimizing the threat of invasive insects, the NWPCA works with an array of partners to advocate for the program and find ways to continuously improve it. The use of properly applied heat treatment will limit the spread of invasive pests and protect plant resources. IFQRG Scientists, regulators and industr y exper ts work together to solve global forest plant health problems.
