42 PalletCentral • January-February 2020 palletcentral.com FIRE CODE UPDATE STRICTER ENFORCEMENT UNDERWAY T he new fire codes, which included sections on outdoor storage of wooden pallets, were passed in 2018, and are now, being adopted in many states. There are two separate bodies that administer building code regulations: National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) and the International Code Council (ICC). The codes are published in an NFPA1 document and International Fire Code (IFC) for the ICC. To assist wood packaging facilities with compliance, NWPCA developed a code compliance manual, which released January, 2018. This document outlines the specific steps each facility will need to take to comply with the fire codes. As state adoption is beginning in many states, expect to see stricter enforcement. Regardless of the state adoption process, NWPCA continues to recommend that you implement this latest approach and fully comply with the new code regulations. To assist with this effort, learn more and download the compliance manual at PalletCentral.com/ComplianceManual.
