"How do we love our people well and take care of them in the short term," questions Wenner, "while being financially responsible to ensure long term viability. Striking the right balance between managing the long term and short term implications of the decisions we are making as things continue to develop is the main challenge." The Wondering NWPCA members are known for their progressive and forward thinking, but even the best minds are wondering what the future holds. Answers to questions and concerns remain unknown, which is likely the most problematic for business owners and managers. Some are concerned over the permanence of all the new hastily-passed regulations as a result of the pandemic, and the impact they will have on business as usual. "I am concerned about the government relief package incentivizing employees to not work at our expense. I am concerned that the relief package will be more problematic than the virus, from a business perspective," says one respondent. "Our sick policy states that employees can stay home but not get paid. A lot of questions I have are regarding how to take care of sick people if they don't necessarily have COVID-19, but have a fever," wonders another. "The new policies in place don't seem 100% clear."
