"I'm a fourth-generation West Michigander, a mom, a Christian, and an attorney who proudly served in the U.S. Department of Justice," she shared. "A foundation of faith motivated my career in public service and my desire to serve West Michigan in Congress." Before launching her political career, Scholten worked as a social worker, inspired by her mother's legacy as a public school teacher. She brings this same spirit of community and service into her work on Capitol Hill, where she represents Michigan's ird Congressional District. Listening To Main Street: Small Business Concerns A hallmark of Scholten's leadership style is her commitment to understanding the needs of her constituents, especially small businesses, which are the backbone of the local economy. When she visits with business owners, the top concerns she hears again and again are access to capital, the complexity of government regulations, and economic unpredictability. "Main Street thrives when our economy is steady and growing—and predictable," Scholten explained. "e erratic nature of our current tariff policy and uncertainty of interest and tax rates make it hard to plan for the future of a business. I am committed to advocating for smart and sensible economic policies for our entrepreneurs." Her policy priorities reflect these concerns. She supports measures that increase financial support and contract opportunities for small businesses, including tools like Community Development Financial Institutions (CDFIs) and the Small Business Administration's 8(a) program. Most recently, she co-led a bipartisan initiative—the Investing in All of America Act—aimed at directing strategic investments into rural and underserved areas to boost manufacturing and technology sectors. Keeping A Local Focus ough she serves in Washington, Scholten emphasizes that she spends the majority of her time at home in Michigan, staying connected to the people she represents. "Staying connected to the people of West Michigan isn't just part of my job—it is the job," she said. Take the pulse of the pallet market. Download our exclusive pallet market survey.
