Pallet C e nt ral • No vem be r-D e cem be r 2 0 26 37 was able to focus on what makes crates different, from their enclosed structures to the wide range of sizes and configurations they take on. e first version supports three common types: sheathed crates, cleated crates, and solid wood boxes. Future updates will add more crate styles, new tools, CAD integration, and support for other wood packaging formats. Seeing The Design, Not Just Drawing It For early users, one of the most immediate benefits has been in how designs are communicated. A crate design is only as useful as a customer's ability to understand and approve it; flat drawings do not always tell the full story. "CDS has been a great addition to our design process," said Jon Farinha of Girard Wood Products. "e ability to quickly create detailed crate designs and show customers 3D and exploded views has made it much easier to communicate our designs, while also helping us identify opportunities to improve efficiency and reduce costs." Clearer communication and careful use of materials show the practical value of CDS. When designers can see exactly how a crate is built, they can find ways to simplify the design, save materials, or add strength where needed. Special Product Previews Prior to the CDS launch, Woodpack Global hosted introductory demos in English and Spanish to give industry professionals who had joined the product interest list an early look at the solution. e sessions were conducted in both English and Spanish, reflecting the international reach of the wood packaging industry and Woodpack Global's commitment to serving designers in the language they work in. Kristen DeLack, Michelle Torelli (Director of Technology and Development), and Alexandra Guevara (PDS and Technical Expert, Mexico and LATAM) led the sessions. ey guided participants through the design process, from setting up a crate to creating the 3D and exploded views that early users appreciate. Feedback from designers who will use CDS every day shaped the first release, and their input will help guide future updates. What Comes Next Woodpack Global sees CDS as the beginning of a longer journey, not a finished product. "We're excited to add the Crate Design System to our suite of wood packaging software solutions," said Brent McClendon, President & CEO of Woodpack Global. "is is an early but meaningful step in extending our software work to a segment of the industry that hasn't had many dedicated tools. We're looking forward to building this out further alongside the members and businesses who'll be using it." For crate designers who have spent years working with limited tools, this collaborative approach may be the most exciting part of the launch. CDS gives them a tool made for their needs now and a say in how it develops. Crate Design System is now available. To learn more or request a personalized demo, visit woodpackglobal.org/cratedesign.
