There are 69 research projects already funded by NIOSH responsive to the TWU agenda, and more than 300 products developed, including peer-reviewed journal articles, NIOSH publications and fact sheets, and reports and conference proceedings. Many of these are useful to companies that deliver pallets or offer warehousing and logistics services to customers. The TWU sector's key objectives include: • Reducing deaths and injuries among TWU workers • Reducing musculoskeletal disorders among TWU workers • Promoting and improving health and well-being of TWU workers • Increasing knowledge about the association between TWU worker exposures and adverse health outcomes, and effective prevention and control strategies • Increasing knowledge about the role of worker characteristics and impairment on TWU worker safety, health and well-being, and effective prevention strategies • Encouraging "Prevention through Design" (a recurring NIOSH theme of getting its research results into practice, and anticipating hazards and addressing them during facility design and construction) • Proactively addressing the safety implications of emerging technology, such as proximity detection devices for mobile equipment, autonomous vehicles, and increased robotics • Supporting safe workplaces through organizational-level factors, programs and measures • Increasing understanding of how changes in the economy affect the safety and well-being of TWU workers, and • Fostering translation of research into practice to improve the health and well-being of TWU workers. The release of the "third decade" agendas is just the start: the real work begins once work items get funded and research projects are approved. Moreover, the NORA Sector Councils continue their work on an ongoing basis. Anyone with an interest in any of these councils can join and participate, simply by contacting the NORA Coordinator or sector council leadership. The councils assess needs and encourage more research and adoption of effective, evidence- based interventions. Comments on sector objectives and direction are encouraged.
