Our sincere appreciation and thanks go out to Pallet Management Group, Topax Protektive Packaging, Weston Forest Products, and Woodbridge Pallet, for their generous support as plant tour hosts. They opened their doors to nearly 400 attendees. Exhibitors filled the room, showcasing their latest products and services to our industry. NWPCA Committees convened, shared updates and exchanged ideas on current projects. The NWPCA Board of Directors also met and approved a health plan for NWPCA members. Gething Named Industry Rep for "International Year of Plant Health" We congratulate Dr. Brad Gething on his selection by USDA-APHIS as the industry representative for the 2020 International Year of Plant Health planning committee. It is a great honor to work with the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service to help plan the agenda for the 5,000-attendee event in July 2020. NWPCA Releases PDS 6.0 The release of PDS 6.0 represents a significant milestone for unit loads. PDS 6.0 considers the interactions between a flexible wood pallet and corrugated boxes. The tool uses world-leading science and modeling usually, associated with space flight, race cars, and jet engines, and uses it to gain insight into wooden pallet and unit load design. It provides critical information on how to reduce damages in shipping while optimizing cost and material efficiency. Jordan Piland, NWPCA's Board Chair said, "Expect to see more from the PDS development team for 2020. PDS 6.0 Unit Load for Boxes is just the first installment of system-level unit load design and analysis tools in PDS; drums, plastic pails, and sheet goods will follow." Piland added, "NWPCA and The Pallet Foundation investments, totaling nearly $1.5 million over the next two years, advance our industry and benefit each of our companies, making PDS the international language for pallet design."
