Since my time as Mayor of Irving, Texas, I relentlessly sought to recruit and encourage expanding existing businesses because I knew it was great for our tax base, career opportunities, and our entire region. If we could orient federal policies to ensure our businesses are globally competitive and not hamstrung by harmful federal regulations and taxes, investment and innovation would power a truly American growth renaissance. As a Ways and Means Committee member, I'm looking at ways to expand our trade relationships to help drive growth and empower American companies to boost trade. What role do you think small businesses like this one play in the overall U.S. economy and your local community? roughout my time as an elected official, both locally and nationally, I have encouraged our communities to support small businesses as critical elements of a healthy, vibrant, and diverse economic environment. As policymakers, we are responsible for learning from our small businesses and making common sense adjustments to help their growth and well-being, as they account for 99.9% of all businesses in the United States. What can we expect from the 118th Congress? What are your top priorities for the next session? e American people elected a Republican House Majority to break up total Democrat control in Washington, D.C., so we could serve as a check against a Biden Administration and Congress. We offer alternatives to adjust the tax code so people and businesses can keep more of what they earn and invest in their futures. Beyond much-needed pro-growth tax policy adjustments, we are focused on expanding American energy development to lower costs and fight inflation, empowering law enforcement and better border patrol. Fun fact about yourself? Several years ago, under the scorching heat of the Texas sky, I jumped out of a perfectly functional plane from 10,000 above the Irving Convention Center. At the time, I was the Mayor of Irving, and I skydived with the "Red Bull Air Force" because our city was selected to host the National Red Bull Flugtag, a homemade, human-powered flying craft competition.
