42 PalletCentral • November-December 2015 palletcentral.com new release of NWPCA's Pallet Design System™ (Version 5.2) is available. PDS users with active internet connections have been automatically alerted to the availability of this new version, and given the opportunity to update their PDS software. On last year's wish list, many PDS designers requested the enhancement of the user interface to more easily locate pallet components during the design procedure. Version 5.2 addresses this issue. All pallet component dimensions, component locations, and spacing between components are shown in real-time during the pallet design procedure. For optimal clarity, the component group currently being edited (for example the top deckboards or the stringers) are shown in color — while all other components are drawn in gray- scale. This latest version of PDS still works the same way; it brings users a smoother user-friendly experience. Additionally, most PDS users create a "pdf " of the PDS Specification Sheet, 2-D and 3-D Pallet Drawings, and/or results of the PDS Structural and Durability Analyses (rather than a "hard copy") to email to their customers. If users are happy with their current method of creating pdf 's, they can continue to use it. However, PDS Version 5.2 incorporates an integrated PDF creation tool for any or all pages of the "PDS printout." Look for the "PDF Icon" in the toolbar to execute this function. PDS Did You Know?
