NWPCA 2023 Auction for the Pallet Foundation Sets Record T he NWPCA industry auction to benefi t the Pallet Foundation was held on March 2, 2023, during ALC 2023. e auction raised $351,975, an increase of nearly $20,000 from 2022, breaking all previous records. All proceeds benefi t the Pallet Foundation. Special thanks to NWPCA Member Bill MacCauley, John Rock Inc., for lending his auctioneer skills at the event, and to all those winning bidders and donors, we thank you. e Pallet Foundation advances the global use of wood packaging in unit-load solutions. e Pallet Foundation identifi es critical data gaps and trends by funding research whose answers can enhance our industry's economic, environmental, and safety benefi ts. Donations are accepted year-round for the Foundation. Look for the donation button at PalletFoundation.org. Member Portal Updates I f you're an NWPCA member, you may have noticed some changes in our Member Portal. e Member Portal is your one-stop resource for everything related to you or your company's membership in NWPCA, so please keep it updated. Look for an email on how to update your listing or explore the features on your own when you log in. Everything can be done in your Account & Settings tab (click the "Welcome" bar at the top to take you there if you have any trouble locating any tabs). While in your Profi le, be sure to review/update your product off erings, business certifi cations (new for companies), and profession category (i.e., Executive Management, Marketing/Sales, Plant Supervisor, etc.) or update your headshot. is new directory, accessible by members only, is for individuals so that you can connect with peers in your fi eld. If you have any questions or have issues updating your profi le, please get in touch with NWPCA at info@palletcentral.com. 2023-2024 NWPCA Board Election Results D uring the 2023 Annual Leadership Conference in Fort Worth, TX, the following were newly elected or re-elected to the NWPCA Board of Directors for 2023-2024: • Michelle Blizzard, Pallet Central Enterprises • Henry Bowman, C&L Wood Products • Justin Kamps, Kamps, Inc. • Ben Remmey, Remmey – e Pallet Company • Scott Vipond, Girard Wood Products During the Board Meeting, the following individuals were voted to the NWPCA Executive Committee for the 2023-2024 term: • Nick Wenner, Pallet Service Corp. – Chair • Jeff Lewis, Atlanta Pallets – Chair-Elect • Carolyn Beach, Westside Pallet – Past Chair • Hinton Howell, Cottondale Wood Products – Treasurer • LeRoi Cochran, 48forty Solutions – Director at Large Gething Attends Stakeholder Meeting on Invasive Species I n February, Brad Gething, vice president of science and technology, participated in a North American Sea Container Initiative meeting in Washington, D.C. e two-day event, organized by USDA Animal Plant Inspection Service (APHIS) and the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA), allowed stakeholders to workshop ideas on improving sea container cleanliness to reduce the risk of the spread of hitchhiking insects along this pathway. As a signifi cant component of the global supply chain, the pallet industry plays a minor but essential role in helping to minimize the risk of these invasive pests. Ortega Elected to SBLC Board J ason Ortega, vice president of public aff airs, was elected to the Small Business Legislative Council (SBLC) board of directors. e SBLC is an independent, permanent coalition of trade professional associations that share a common concern for the future of small businesses. Since its creation in 1976, the SBLC has grown dramatically to represent nearly every sector of our economy. e Coalition is a unifi ed source that is respected throughout the government, and its views and opinions are valued by those who must decide how the laws of this nation are enacted and enforced.
