LABOR
orkforce recruitment and retention is
critical to the success of any business.
The NWPCA Board of Directors
recently added a workforce goal to
our association's strategic plan, so we
thought it timely to share insights
from our industry thought leaders on
the topic. You will increasingly see
more on this subject, including a variety of programs at the
NWPCA Annual Leadership Conference in March, as we examine
potential solutions for this
We had a tremendous response to our request for input on this
article – in fact, it was so overwhelming that we've dedicated more
space in this edition so we can share responses from across the
globe, and advance a discussion on solutions for finding,
motivating, and managing tomorrow's workforce. Below are some
of the questions we posed:
• What do you foresee for labor and the workforce for 2018? In 5
or 10 years?
• What are the contributing factors in finding labor (pay? benefits?
lack of interest?)
• In your specific region, who/what segment, is your competition
for labor?
• What are the potential solutions for finding labor in our
industry over the next 5 or 10 years?
One response from Stuart Busman, sales manager from Macoser,
Inc., was connected to another new NWPCA strategic goal area on
automation and the role of technology solutions. He answered the
question in one sentence: The challenges associated with workforce
labor can often be addressed through investment and application of
available technology. Read more responses from our industry
thought leaders on the following pages, and let us what hits the
mark, and what misses.
