When more people appreciate the whole story of forests, who is responsible for them, how and why we manage and conserve them, the forest sector and our forests will thrive. Raising Awareness Everyone involved in the forest products community has an important story to tell. NWPCA, NAFP and its diverse members believe that our forests and the community will all benefit when there is greater public awareness of: 1. The social, environmental and economic benefits of forests and forest products. Water, clean air, forest products, spaces for recreation, places for employment, for biodiversity – we have a rich story to tell about how forests, forest products and the community that works in them, improve so many people's lives and the environment around us. 2. The forest sector's role as innovative, responsible stewards. We are all dedicated to the management of sustainable, healthy forests, and committed to the future of forests. There is a need to showcase all the innovation that is going on in the sector today and the lengths our members are going through as responsible stewards of these precious resources. 3. The need to keep forests as forests. We keep what we value. By increasing awareness of the benefits that we receive from forests, we can keep forest land forested and prevent its conversion into non- forest uses. 4. The need for a diversity of forests managed to meet different outcomes and benefits. There are many different types of forests. Different species of trees produce diverse forests from an ecological point of view, and forests vary based on the decisions we make related to forest management. In North America, all forests are 'managed'. Some are managed for strict protection or conservation goals that may include no harvesting, while some are regularly cut to produce timber and forest products. Share Your Story Share your passion for forests and forest products, learn from others who are telling the stories, and engage with the sector by sharing your own story.
